Sometimes opposites or contradictions can be best friends...so long as they complement each other....
...bright & dark
...pink & grey
...dots & stripes
...curves & lines
...light & shadows
...low & high
...day & night
...feminine & masculine
...geometry & poetry
...mind & heart
...and so many more, endless pairs of opposites to name...
...all particapting in the dance of life...can form a beautiful wholeness, so long as they accept & respect each others existence....working with and for each other.
...so long as they are both true & authentic, they can complement each other, resulting in a unity based on healthy oneness.
Not the alsmost usual mosaic (so far!-> update: here it is) to wish you all a wonderful weekend, but a diptych instead.
Enjoy all the aspects of life!

Knocking on heaven' s door...
Goodmorning all :)
An official thank you for the welcoming of my Photography series yesterday. I was really delighted by the warm response! So today, I'll be presenting you here a small sample of my rather big collection of doors, that I've been photographing through out the years...even when digital was a far, far away dream.
The doors - and probably a window or two - participating in this mosaic have been photographed mostly since the very beginning of this year. They were found in various places, starting from our own neighbourhood, to Munich, to Madrid, to Mallorca, to Strassbourg, to Amsterdam (set of pictures is under construction at the moment)
One day, after many, many more trips to come and to experience, I'd like to group them together - including all the ones from other past trips, too - and probably publish something. I find doors to be not only very appealing to me due to their unique architecture and colours, but also to hold a very special symbolic meaning.
Our paths of lives, for example, go always through imaginary doors. Sometimes we open ones to find pure bliss, others to learn a lesson or to find ourselves among others that are to benefit from our own gained knowledge.
There are others that are bright open, but we never actually choose to go through them, either because of a wrong timing or as a result of choice - very often a wise one. Like when we close for good behind us and not ever again decide to go through doors, that led us to unnessary pain or to a way of life that was not suitable to our wishes and standards.
In addition there are these doors, we stand before them with awe and would love to knock, so that their opening reveals an equal incredible interior...probably these are the ones, that need the more stregth and integrity to be opened, as we human beings tend to sometimes be afraid of our own happiness and our own successes.
And finally there are these doors we are sometimes so persistent in opening and keep on endlessly knocking ,despite the fact that there is no actual response....even after many trials...then most probably we are wishing for something the wrong way, we are probably seeking for easy success, without having the required background for that.
A wise decision would be to reconsider both the door we are aiming at and our readiness to enter it.
There are no easy ways, but we are the ones who can make our ways easy...good news is we can prepare ourselves by recognising both our weaknesses and strenghts and arm oureselves both with faith in our abilities and some humbleness, too.
How about you?...are you probaply in the mood for some sharing today?..which are the doors that you have firmly closed behind you in your lives and which are the ones you wish to open?
I'll be signing off for the day and return later tonight, so by then I'm wishing you all to have the best days ever possible for each one of you!

Give away!
Hello once again : )
Here I am as promised!...see?...I did not disappear ;-)
The give away I mentioned earlier this morning has started and is running since about an hour over at City of Dionne's blog. Dionne and I have been organising it together for quite some time!
She keeps a lovely blog, filled with beautiful pictures she takes herself, as much as delightful illusrtations! So, pay her a visit, enter the contest and have lots of fun!
Here are some details:
-> There'll be one lucky winner, to be announced on Sunday.
-> There are three items offered from my Etsy shop, so that the winner can have a
choice, I thought that would be nice, right? :)
-> All you have to do is go here and leave a comment by saying: a) what makes you feel at peace and b) which one of the three items you would like to win
-> 1) The five hearts mobile from handcut pieces of vintage leather &
contemporary wallpaper
-> 2) The set of six mini cards, decorated also with the same pieces of leather in icy
white, grey & earthy yellow
-> 3) The handmade, vintage, ceramic vase in shades of beige & grey, decorated
with golden stripes , which originates from Germany and is numbered on its
bottom.
So, schnelle, schnelle, schnelle! - as we say for "quick" here in Germany, do go and enter!
I hope you enjoy and of course good luck for winning!
The other two products, that will not be chosen on the first place, will be availiable on a give away organised shortly here. I will keep you informed!

Happy (belated) new week and....
...welcoming you to Photography... Through Ivy's eyes.
Dear all, I must firstly apologise for my...disappearing act, as I meant to wish you all here a delightful weekend, by posting this collage of Various Forms of Love.
Obligations though on Friday morning, plus preparing for a short trip on this long weekend allowed for no time to do it.
I hope you all had a nice weekend and the beginning of this week has already found you refreshed and positive!
In this post, I'm sharing bits of yesterday's favorite moments, which marked both the beginning of the week and the last day of our almost four day trip to the Netherlands. By doing this, I'm also introducing and welcoming you to Photography...Through Ivy's eyes, which is exactly what it says it is: pictures taken by me, expressing the way I see the world. I have already being doing so since quite a long time, but this time it is official, therefore the addition of my label.
...just a few words about that:
Being mostly an amateur photographer, who uses at the moment a 5 megapixel Konica Minolta camera and has modest skills on processing, my pictures attemp to moslty represent reality, as seen of course through my perspective.
The main focus is on composition, depending on the way a capture is made, as it is naturally found in the environment. I do love to style also, but am moslty amazed by the beauty that exists out there in the world.
I think that when I'm surrounded by beauty, I'm in a constant natural high!
So, to go back to the pictures of my photography series, they are hardly processed, with the exception of a usual increase in contrast, rarely in brightness and a slight emphasis on colours by increasing saturation. I use no filters either on the camera lens or during processing.
All the importance lies in the way the world is percieved and captured, through creating a pictrure. Cropping is a very important factor, which works well with my natural love for geometry!
But mostly the pictures are framed when clicking.
So, after all these introductional blah, blah, which I sincerely wish has not put you to sleep, how about some details of our trip to the Netherlands and more of them connected to pictures of this post?....such as this one?
Yes?...that's nice :)....cause I'm all in the mood for - selective - sharing!
So, our road trip to the Netherlands begun on late Friday afternoon, destination Amsterdam. Eventhough this was the third time I visit this city in a year, since last spring, it never, ever bores me!
As far as I'm concerned, I could be living there permanently, for reasons that will be stated in a different post, accompanied by pictures of course!
As the weather was dreamy sunny and pleasantly warm, all the time was spent strolling around the incredible streets by the canals, being breathtaken by the beauty of the old houses, the architectural elements, the incredible interior design - as people are totally relaxed and hardly hung curtains or blinds on their windows, plus they leave their front doors open quite often, while they are enjoying a coffee & reading their newspapers on the little balconies or even the road's pavement!
After two nights and two days, on Sunday evening, we drove direction Rotterdam, just about 60 km away, in order to take a quick look at the more industrial & modern architecture, but mostly in order to spend the night in a spacious and retro furnitured cabin of "De Rotterdam", an old 50's ship, renovated and transformed into a hotel.
An evening walk to the Erasmus Bridge offered a spectacular view of the architecure by night, captured by my partner's patient skill - and qualified camera - on night photography.
As the city doesn't exactly offer lovely corners to explore while walking, next morning, after a quick tour by car, we headed to The Hague, for breakfast and a walk in a park, where deers lived, having it as their residence.
And now we come to the highlight of the day, presented through the pictures of this post,
...or a coastal suburb a few kilometers from The Hague, situated in the south of The Netherlands, with small beautiful brick houses, lined by the beach, all with verandas and decorated with wonderful taste. An alternative summer destination for us - other than Greece of course, where I originate from.
Except from walking around, feeling the lovely breeze on our skin, while the sun was kissing us and smelling this incredible sea freshness and while of course taking pictures, relaxed time was spent at one of the cafes situated exaclty on the beach, where and around which the pictures of this post were taken.
I can still taste the warm brownie with the soft, white ice cream on top (sorry no pictures!) and the tea of red fruit....Having been brought up in a coastal suburb of Athens and having spent some 33 years of my life living by the sea, whenever I get near it, it is as if all worries just vanish and all thoughts can be effortlessly organised....and then just simply actions take place.
So, I hope you have enjoyed this small trip with me and should you have done so, thank you very much for being a visitor and taking the ride.
There are quite a few things running at the moment, one of which is a give away organised in cooperation with Dionne from City of Dionne - details are to come later today - and the continuation of it, another give away, which will take place here and on flickr, in order to celebrate the 100.000 of my stream, achieved some two weeks ago.
I'll be posting pictures of this trip to the Netherlands organised in groups throughout the week. I hope to achieve a satisfying level until next week, when we fly direction Greece for almost two weeks of summer vacation.
So, this is again a period that the title of this blog supports iteslf, as I'm a currently a rather busy bee!
Enjoy a great day! I'll be back later with detalis about the give away...see you then :)

A stamp of love
....two of my passions combined together and binded with...love!
...interior decoration and especially love for white, serene & simple interiors combined with my love for handwriting - something I, again, owe to my mother - only that here technology rather than human hands are responsible for the writing.
Captured in a picture, representing my ever increasing love for photography...
So, love & light! How can one separate love from light?
As love always carries a bright feeling...

Goodmorning love...
....coz you can judge a good morning from its early beginning...the Greeks used to say - these days when they were less busy with protesting and complaining instead of concentrating on work - that: "I kali mera ap' to prwi fenetai"...or "A good day can be seen from its morning", the word morning standing here for an early beginning....there's not much philosophy in it...but a lot of practical truth...
...provide your organism with good nutrition to handle with the day ahead and do it in the best possible manner....referring both to the environment & table setting, but also to the people we are sharing our mornings with.
I think a lot of relationships are judged in the morning....and it is so rewarding to realise that you are begining your day with a person you mostly want to be with...and in case the realisation goes the other direction, then change would most probably be a solution....leading us to a more fullfilled way of living.

Look around you....
Look around you - love can be everywhere, but of course also
Look inside you - love is hiding there!
...some years ago I realised that living with love is a priority in my life. This doesn't necessarily involve only a romantic approach in to seeing things and it definetely doesn't always mean, that life is seen through pink glasses all the time!
Look inside you - love is hiding there!
...some years ago I realised that living with love is a priority in my life. This doesn't necessarily involve only a romantic approach in to seeing things and it definetely doesn't always mean, that life is seen through pink glasses all the time!
But what does it involve?
It involves living with the truth, living healthy and with sanity.
It invloves living with an understanding both for the self and others.
It involves being fair...oh! so hard in this competitive world!
It involves having the best of intentions, but also being able to move away
from situations, when they prove to be a simple repetance of things wrong.
It involves encouraging others to be the best they can, but also letting it go, when there is a feeling of extreme resistance from the opposite side.
It involves looking inside ourselves for answers, before we point our fingers to others for our misfortunes.
It involves being grateful for the gift of life.
It involves appreciating whatever we might have.
It involves bringing our existences to their highest possible point by
doing the best we can for ourselves and others.
I guess it also involves being authentic, by taking the time to discover ourselves and allow inspiration to come from within....
...again rather hard when inspiration lies everywhere around us, to keep the balance...to look inside in order to offer a true part of ourselves....
Welcome to my Diary of Love....where pictures and words will melt in each other, for the only purpose of reminding us the priceless value of love.
It might sound simple, but sometimes real love is a tough path to follow.
Coz loving life means to embrace both the good & the bad, both the bright & the dark...accepting their dual existance and simply making clear choices.

cake love & a happy new week!
Hello there :)
I hope you all had a delightful weekend and were able to find happiness in the small, simple & important things, among others of course!
Thanks to the recipe & precise instructions of a lovely online friend, enjoying a delicious carrot cake was one of the highlights of this weekend.
Oh!...the pleasure of accomplishment....can sometimes be found is such simple things as trying to bake a new cake recipe, succeeding, enjoying it or in exploring our artistic natures, such as when crafting and/or photographing for example...
....there are certainly talents & passions in every individual and investing time into exploring them is a valuable way of finding pleasure, a sense of achievement & happiness, that doesn't depend on others, our relationships or our formal jobs, but it is simple and deeply connected to ourselves.
There is always time, if we think about it, sometimes more and sometimes less, depending on our current life conditions. But there is no such thing as being passionate about something and not ever finding the way and the time to be engaged in it!
...and sometimes all we people need is a gentle push and a reassuring tap on our shoulders!
What about you?....what are you passionate about and try to make up time in order to be involved with it?
Or if there is practically no time in your daily lives now, what is it that you wish to and plan for doing, as soon as this is possible?
What is it that you love to do during which you forget yourself and at the same time you find yourself?
Are you maybe lucky enough and have already worked hard to have made your passion be your daily reality, way of living and possibly your formal job?
What a way to start a week....by posing questions! But my intentions are to wish you all a lovely week and do think, that by encouraging us to do the things we really love, is a possible way of managing to experience meaningful moments of happiness throughout our days.
As far as my weekend is concerned, I did take the advice of many of you here, who commented on this recent post - expressing much tireness and temporary inability to move forward - and all I did was relax and free my mind from thoughts!
On line engagement was also limited, despite the fact that the whole Saturday was spent at home, engaging in to such activities, as magazine reading, crafting, cooking & spending nice time with loved ones.
Sunday was a fine day out, with the weather finally showing a more Springy face! Visting family for lunch and early afternoon coffee & cake and then long walks in the woods, while being on a Photo Safari (of which pictures will be soon shared on flickr) were excellent for bringing peace in a lately overworried mind, settling emotions and charging the self's batteries. Isn't nature one of the most wonderful presents?...and companionship just another one?
Thank you all for taking the time to share and comment here lately! Have the loveliest of weeks!

...and a very Happy Weekend!
...it's May...
...it's actually the middle of May...
...it has been rainy, grey & cold since almost the past two weeks...
...long walks and bicycling aren't exactly favorited...
...but life is good when we make it good...
...and that's why I' m wishing you to spend a weekend as lovely as you can...
...despite the weather or other possible unpleasant conditions - in case there are some...
...and have gathered here in this small mosaic...
... moments of this week, which were happy and sweet and carefree...
...eventhough there were also moments of sadness and darker thoughts as mentioned here.
Breakfast time, shared with my partner is something I cherish like a treasure and so are - not so often - meetings with friends, like the one I had yesterday with a very dear one of mine.
Enjoyed Thai soup in a nice, newly opened and minimally decorated place and then hot chocolate and homemade cake at a favorite cafe in Mainz and strolled around the small art & handmade fair, where these super cute & happy dotted cups and mugs were found!
May this weekend result for all of us in a happy combination, much as strawberries and dots make!

Tabula rasa
Before making a more colourful and happy post here to wish you all a happy weekend, I thought I present to you the new table that has come to live with us in the Penthouse since a week, in case some of you have been following what is going on in this little apartment, over the last year.
I encourage you to visit my flickr account, in case you are not already doing so, as there are detailed descriptions and comments under each picture. I am mostly used to posting there, but am trying to slowly bring the focus here, which will eventually result in some changes, too....but there is time for that...and it 'll be done soft and smoothly....
So here is " cocktail hour" the sexy, three leged 50s table that came to live with as a test and is at the same time intended to be listed in the vintage section of the shop. We need some time to decide and are not forcing any decisions at the moment.
I named this collection of pictures Tabula Rasa, because living in a white environment offers the freedom to play with styles, mood, furniture and accent colours so easily, as the new experiences that can be formed and absorbed in the fresh, pure and mostly unihabited memories of newly borns.
The result satisfies me, but at the same time I miss the freshness and vividness of this version of our sofa corner....so we'll see how things evolve in the next days and weeks....
Stay tuned and do keep an eye here, as it is so much more easy to post pictures and discribe them more spontaneously and directly.

& now what...?
O.k...o.k...I know that I usually come here with a - big - smile and lots of positivism...and I trully like to do that...but as this blog is evolving as part of my everyday life, it is almost impossible to be always on this track. And I trully start to be getting used to coming here and sharing...and I'd like to do that as I often as I can...but this presupposes that I'm not placed high in any podium, but rather we are all gathered sitted on the floor, among comfortable cushions alltogether. Then I can share parts of my everyday life, of my reality, my thoughts and considerations here with you, where you are also welcome to drop in and share.
Just please do be aware that I'm not glued to this blog and I consider it to be....let's say...an extra room, where I get to have meetings with you, when there is free time....but you are all free to gather here and exchange views and opinions with each other, even without my constant presence. In a way, I'm always here, as this is a place created by me.
So today, allow me to share some less than usual clear thoughts and accept the fact that I'm kind of tired and confused....so...
...ever feel that you are stuck?
...that you know exactly what you are supposed to do, but have no strength to do it?
...ever feel that you doubt your own self?
...ever feel that your energy is drained?
...ever feel that you need to learn new skills, more things, but feel like you' ve spent your whole life in endless learning and simply just need a break?
...ever feel that it's time to really - really! - put your plans and wishes in action, but feel that you are tired even without having started?
...ever feel you are scared to become the best you can be?
...ever feel you are scared like mad of letting go of all the possible pain life has brought your way?
...and that it's time to see that there is actually NO pain any more...
...and that everything is just an echo of the past?
...of traumas that eventhough have been very well taken care off, they have left their irreversible marks?
Well, then you know how I feel these days....no, I am not locked in a room with black circles under my eyes, am not living in a mess and am not leaving myself untaken care of...
Our living space is well taken care of, I go out, I dress myself nicely, I socialise and occasionally work both at and outside home...
...but simply it feels like every little thing needs too much effort!
Then, I know it's time to go back and see what I 've lost and where on my way....
Find it...
Pick it up...
Keep it...
And cherish it like the treasure that it is!
And then...do. Life is SO all about doing.

Gorgeousness....Happy Monday!
To wish you a happy Monday - as much as this is rather the opposite of the truth for many - an assemlance of gorgeous photos, all taken by very talented flickr members, some of them being contacts of mine and others caring the title of online friends.
Moments of Spring, vivid but yet harmonious colours, flowers and again flowers, in pots, in bouquettes, in bicycle baskets, on fabrics and wallpapers, but also geometric patterns, black & white, graffiti on the...floor and time for sandals and wooven baskets to carry our groceries in or just become home to some magazines or yarn.
Not to forget blue skies, dogs - a man's best friend - and beautiful gardens, the empty chairs of which are soon to be inhabited by lightly dressed people, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the freshness of a cool breeze....
So with this charming dance of colours, here go my wishes:
Have the loveliest week of all! And a warm thank you for all the visits here, which I have noticed to have really increased lately. You finding inspiration here, is my present! Thank you so much : )

Happy Mother's Day!
Of all the gifts of life, motherhood must be one of the most precious ones! To all the mothers of the world, biological and not, hope you are spending lovely days with your families, your loved ones, yourselves or however you wish!
Today I'm thankful for having been born a woman and for having been brought up by a caring, loving mother.

Pure Love
...just a short post today...
Which other colour could represent purity better than white?
For the love of white...
For the love of light...
There where all colours meet together...
There where the heart rests...

Ivy hearts styling...
....wether interiors, exteriors or fashion, she loves to style!
....and most of all she loves to style with a clear mind and a smily heart!...she's happy for her initial studies and major in Psychology (and minor in Philosophy ) and sees that provided there is health given, there is nothing that can stand between a person and his/her true passion!
Having been passionate about style all my life, the only reason I hadn't studied it at the beginning was that major life issues in my immediate environment called for understanding, and studies on the subject mentioned were a priority.
Years of personal analysis followed ( as to practice in my own self what studied) and all comes down to the one and only truth: we are all born with some talents and passions and there's nothing better than perfecting them as soon as possible....but should life bring it this way, that there is a delay...it is never too late and actually, late is better than never!
I have come to conclude that there is a special quality in styling that fascinates me and this is that of balance.
I know that decorating is very often about astonishing results and evoking ohhhhs and wooows, or needing to impress even a little bit with some possesions. This is fine and quite often I myself do admire such spaces, but somehow I prefer to live and create simple interiors, that are powered by the personalities of the people inhabiting them.
Balanced interiors of course needn't always be in neutral palletes, as much as balanced people needn't always be quiet! They can still be expressive and get super enthusiastic about things, still there's something about the way of expressing that holds a certain balance....
Always...not too much....and not too little...who knows maybe a new wave will emerge....after minimalism and maximalism....balancism!
If we think about it, we are all amazed or affected by balance in so many ways....dancers and acrobats wouldn't be able to perform without balance...buildings wouldn't be able to stand straight, cyclists wouldn't be able to ride their bicycles or motorcycles, there would be no musical harmony and of course there would be no day and night, no seasons....everything in the whole of existence seems to be based on balance....but we people are sometimes so dependent on our need to impress, that we choose fancy or extreme ways - in our interiors / outfits/ behavior - which are definetely much more notable and exciting...and probably easier to achieve...
Do they make us happy though?
Could it be that the key to happiness is also balance?
....and most of all she loves to style with a clear mind and a smily heart!...she's happy for her initial studies and major in Psychology (and minor in Philosophy ) and sees that provided there is health given, there is nothing that can stand between a person and his/her true passion!

Oh! Would you please...just....
....love me?
....not only for who I am...
....but also despite who I am...
....and mostly for who I am yet not!
I guess we all want to be loved, not only for all our goodness, but moslty despite our bad sides and imperfections....and mostly for our efforts to becoming the persons we are proud of being.
Processes are often tough to go through, yet the way in which real, internal changes take place.
Our characters remind of houses....the better materials we use for their construction, the better the solidarity, the duration and the outcome....we may cheat by focusing on the...decoration(!)...but sooner or later we'll have to go back restoring the foundations, should we have neglected them in the first place...

A different kind of power....
...the power of tranquility...of light...of softness....of simplicity....the power of solid wood....of brick walls...or mirror reflections and swirling energy....the power of eyes and perception...the power of movement....of beauty, of memories of things once loved...the power of freedom and happiness...
...each one of these images carries a strong ammount of power to my eyes...yet they are all so calm and relaxing...but in no way boring...
Power is an issue to be considered a lot, as throughout history, as much as in our current days, misuse of it is responsible for countless pain and destruction in our world...caused both to humans and nature itself.
It is usually misused in the hands of the greedy, self centered and ignorant...and in the hands of the unawarably low self-esteemed ones and the ones whose pain is left untreated...camouflaging the wounds with uncontrolable anger and hunger for attention.
Peace in the world starts from peace within our hearts. Let's take the necessary steps to be gradually achieving this point throughout our lives, doing both ourselves, our loved ones and the world a favor.
We have the power in our hands....we have the power in our minds...but most of all we have the power in our hearts.
Starting by simply never causing or wishing to someboby anything, that we wouldn't like to happen to us.
Starting by respecting our fellow human beings and our individual differences and never but never understimating others, as we can never know exactly what they have been through their lives.
Power matters into bringing peace. Power should not be missunderstood for aggresiveness, ambition or anger.
